BANDUNG-The Governor of West Java, Ahmad Heryawan, officially opened the 15th Tilawatil Qur'an Selection (STQ) Provincial Level of West Java 2017, Saturday (8/4) at the courtyard of the mosque of West Java Islamic Da'wah Centre (Pusdai). The opening of the 15th STQ was marked by beating 'jimbe', the event was attended by Regional Secretary of West Java, Iwa Karniwa, Head of Regional Office of Ministry of Religious Affairs of West Java and Public Welfare Assistant, Koesmayadi as the Chief Executive of STQ.
According to Koesmayadi in his report, in STQ 2017 there would be selected one person from each category of competition, which are: tilawah, hifzil qur'an, and mufassir arabic for both boys and girls. The people selected in STQ would be West Java representatives in STQ National Level in July 2017 in North Kalimantan. The number of participants who followed the selection are 720 representatives from regencies/cities in West Java. The STQ would be held from April 8th-13th 2017 at the Provincial Grand Mosque, Al-Muttaqien Mosque at Gedung Sate and Mosque of West Java PUSDAI.
The Governor of West JAva in his speech emphasised that Al-Qur'an is the way of life for Muslims. In addition, the Governor also recited the hadits: "I leave behind me two things, the Qur'an and my example, the Sunnah and if you follow these you will never go astray,". Thus, Al-Qur'an became the way of life and 'hujjah' for Muslims. Al-Qur'an must be read, studied and practised continuously. "Our Prophet Muhammad SAW encouraged his peopleto read and finish Al-Qur'an at least a month (30 days), it means that we have to read at least a juz (chapter) a day," said the Governor.
It was emphasised by the Governor that the STQ was not just only to fulfil the annual event, but also became the momentum to disseminate the spirit of Al-Qur'an, to disseminate the spirit to read Al-Qur'an, and also to disseminate the spirit to learn and practise the Al-Qur'an. Thus, we had prospered and unearthed Al-Qur'an, he said.
