    Minister of Transportation Ensures Kertajati Airport Can Serve Homecoming and Hajj


    MAJALENGKA - Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi ensures the readiness of West Java International Airport (BIJB) in Kertajati Sub-district, Majalengka Regency, to serve the community for homecoming and hajj flight in mid 2018. The assurance was delivered after reviewing the readiness of the airport project, from land and air.

    Budi said with the overall progress that has touched 92 percent as of April 1, construction will be completed in early May 2018. For then in the same month, this airport can be held soft launching and grand launching in June.

    "The progress has reached 92 percent, we have coordinated with the Director General of Transportation in May and the soft opening we want to open in the third week of May and our Idul Fitri will try to do the grand opening as well," Budi said during his working visit on Wednesday (4 / 04/2018).

    "We want to invite the President (Joko Widodo) to be able to do the grand opening, because there are some values that are proud of in terms of funding, the speed of workmanship," continued Budi.

    He mentioned that in the beginning of operation, in particular, the Kertajati Airport can serve domestic flights in five cities: Medan, Surabaya, Bali, Makasar and Balikpapan or Samarinda. As for the pilgrimage where the first kloter will fly on July 15 will be served also from this airport. Minimum of seven flights will be transported from two areas in West Java.

    "There will be seven Fligt, covering at least two districts in West Java namely Majalengka and Sumedang," he added.

    He said to realize that it also has coordinated with Garuda Indonesia airline. Airbus 330 aircraft is prepared to serve the prospective pilgrims from West Java. "Hopefully soon be realized," he explained.

    Pilot Project

    Budi praised the construction of Kertajati Airport which could be completed without relying fully on government funds. PT BIJB as the provincial government-owned enterprises can hook many parties to finance projects worth Rp 2.6 trillion. From the work of this airport can also be completed quickly. So he said the construction of this airport could be a pilot project of infrastructure development in Indonesia. This is because the development involves many parties where for example in the funding scheme there are government and private parties as well as through the mechanism of Reksadana Dana Penawaran Terbatas (RDPT).

    "I appreciate all those involved in the construction of this airport, the local government has such a large airport that is privately run, plus its funding with RDPT, so it is complete, so I made this a model for building modern infrastructure. , the future is big, it could make this as a laboratory to build infrastructure in other provinces, "said Budi.
