GARUT-The daily implementer of West Java Governor H. Mochamad Iriawan said he would soon build a dormitory at SMK 5 Cikelet Garut. This is to accommodate students who have difficulty reaching school because of the considerable distance, in addition to the high demand from students for the presence of new dormitories.
Although previously this marine field school had a dormitory but was considered still lacking because it could only accommodate 50 students. The location of the dormitory is planned to be built in the school area which has 6 hectares of land.
"This is our solution to expand the dormitory which currently can only accommodate 50 people, after that there is another infrastructure," said Iriawan after an interactive dialogue with the principal, teachers and students of SMK 5 Cikelet Garut, Friday (03/08/2018).
As the only school in Garut that focuses on marine affairs, SMK 5 Cikelet this year experienced a significant increase in the number of students. SMK 5 Cikelet now accommodates 297 students and has graduated 13 forces since its establishment in 2005. Most students live in mountainous areas due to the hilly contours of the area, both from Cikelet District and other areas. Not a few students have to travel dozens to tens of kilometres to school.
"There are up to an hour to go to school, the cost becomes expensive. Therefore, the dormitory is very necessary so that they can focus on learning. This is also the desire of students after I had the dialogue," said Iriawan.
He added, after the dormitory was built it would also establish a training centre. There are still 4 hectares of school-owned land that can be utilized. The plan is that his party will establish cooperation with the private sector to build a training place in SMK 5, such as a shrimp farm company.
"Why not, if the rules allow, instead of having to go all the way to another place. So they make the training here and the land from us, we will try," he explained.
In addition, in order for the school to be equivalent to the marine schools in Cidaun and Mundu, the West Java Education Agency will also soon complete other supporting facilities.
"Yes, we will help fulfil equipment such as computers, we still have supplies. This SMKN 5 must be on par with those in Cidaun and Mundu," he said.
The principal of SMK 5 Cikelet, Erdi Ridwan welcomed the plan of the West Java Provincial Government to build a dormitory and training centre. According to him, this matter is very urgent considering that there is currently a surge in new student admissions almost reaching 100 percent.
"Most of our students are far away. Cikelet's district is vast, many of them are in the mountains too, hopefully, boarding school will be realized or the dormitory will stay here and learn," said Erdi.
This visit to SMK 5 Cikelet is the last destination for a three-day working visit to the south of west java. Previously on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, the daily implementer of west java Governor accompanied by the heads of OPD visited Cisolok Geyser tourism objects, inaugurating the help of Rutilahu and PKH in Sukabumi Kabimaen Cimaja.
