    Astra Group Sends Rp.4.5 Billion in Aid to Palu Disaster


    BANDUNG-Astra InternationalTbk and Astra Group companies with the Nurani Astra program allocated assistance in the initial phase worth Rp 4.5 billion to victims of the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Palu City and Donggala District, Central Sulawesi.

    Deliveries of assistance in phase 1 worth Rp. 500 million have arrived in Palu on Monday (1/10), will be followed by they at the next stage. Assistance in the form of 260 tents, 60 generators, 1,000 blankets, 1,000 towels, 6.5 tons of rice, 1,900 liters of fuel, food ingredients for public kitchens, toiletries and the needs of baby and women.

    "We coordinate with various parties to ensure assistance from Astra and Astra Group companies can be received directly by the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Palu and Donggala. Hopefully it is can ease the burden of the disaster victims, "said Pongki Pamungkas, Chief of Corporate Communications, Social Responsibility & Security at PT Astra International Tbk, on Wednesday (3/10).

    With Nurani Astra, the Astra Group in Jakarta, Makassar, Mamuju and Palu have coordinated the distribution of the assistance. Astra also cooperated with the Indonesian Navy and Army in sending aid and securing the distribution of it to the City of Palu and Donggala Regency.

    An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 has shaken the area of Palu City and Donggala Regency on 28 September 2018 at 17.02 WIB. The epicenter of the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km 27 km northeast of Donggala and had the potential to cause a tsunami. At 17.22 WIB a tsunami reached six meters high struck the Talise beach in Palu City and the beach in Donggala Regency.

    In accordance with an official statement from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as of October 3, 2018, the total death toll reached 1,374 people.

    Communication has been crippled now has gradually improved, but it is still difficult to coordinate with the region. Electricity conditions are also extinguished and limited in Palu and Donggala. Reported aftershocks are still ongoing.

    BPBD officers, TNI, Police, Basarnas, SKPD, and volunteers evacuate and help victims. Injured victims are handled by health workers. Emergency handling continues.

    The Astra Group established the Astra Conscience post for disaster management in the PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (AAL) representative office on Jl. Garuda No. 59 Lolu Utara, South Palu, Palu City. As many as 13 Astra Group Search and Rescue personnel have departed from Jakarta to join the post.
