BEKASI - A fishing net was seen spread by President Joko Widodo who was assisted by a farmer in a shrimp farm. There appeared a pile of shrimp that filled the net shortly after being lifted. That morning, the President and the fish farmers were indeed carrying out the Vaname shrimp harvest in Pantai Bakti Village, Muara Gembong District, Bekasi Regency, West Java, on Wednesday, January 30, 2019.
The shrimp that was caught was then poured into a prepared container. Some of them spill out of the container. The president then tried to take the scattered shrimp. However, while holding one of them, the President's finger looked hurt.
"Prompt shrimp," said the President.
The location of the harvested vaname shrimp visited by the President is the location of management through the Social Forest Forest Utilization Permit (IPHPS). The IPHPS location in the village was developed as a location for management of mangrove areas coupled with a pond business by local communities who were given access by the government to manage it.
At that location, previously on November 1, 2017, the President submitted a decree confirming the use of forest in state forest areas to be accessible to farmers and farmers. One of them is the decree for the utilization of the Social Forestry forest to the Mina Bakti farmer group covering 80.9 hectares for 38 family heads.
"We used to spread the seeds to start improving the environment here in November (2017). In our minds in February we could harvest, it failed. Repeated again, succeeded but only 50 percent. This learning process for farmers requires a process like this," said the President.
In this harvest, farmers are expected to harvest Vaname or shrimp shrimp which is also commonly referred to as white foot shrimp as expected.
"Later it will get about 5 tons. It is in a normal position. This is what we expect," he said.
The efforts made by the Mina Bakti farmer group were called by the President as a concrete example of the use of social forestry provided by the government. Although they had failed at the beginning of the process, farmers were slowly able to process and produce in large numbers.
The results of the ponds will later be used to meet domestic needs. It is not impossible, export demand will also be fulfilled given the high demand of many countries. The results of the ponds as the utilization of the Social Forestry Program also bring not small profits.
"So this is for one hectare, which costs approximately Rp180 million. Then it is calculated that the harvest can be around Rp310-320 million. This means that there is a profit margin once the harvest is Rp120 million," said the President.
Also present accompanied the President, Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti, Minister of BUMN Rini Soemarno, Minister of Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of State Pratikno, Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil, and Acting Regent of Bekasi Eka Supria Atmaja.
Quoting the press release of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, this access to Social Forestry management provides management space for each farmer of approximately 2 hectares of management land. The utilization of ponds is also done by revitalizing shrimp ponds in Muara Gembong by making 2 cultivation ponds of 4,000 square meters each, 1 6,000 square meters of mangrove ponds, and building roads, dikes, and supporting infrastructure for other ponds.
Based on the experimental results of the Vaname shrimp on July 22, 2018 in the same location it produced 4.35 tons per hectare at a price of @ Rp 73,000 / Kg. (Even)
