BANDUNG - Bandung District Deputy Regent Gun Gun Gunawan and Director of Finance and HR PT Len Industri Priadi Ekatama Sahari, along with Len Incorporated's management, symbolically planted 15,000 Gambung Coffee Tree seeds in Mekasari Gambung Village, Pasirjambu District, Bandung Regency, on Friday (22 / 3/2019).
"Activities like this are believed to improve the welfare of farmers, while introducing, developing, and preserving the products of the Mekarsari region, especially Gambung Coffee. "Our CSR activities (corporate social responsibility) are programmed to provide sustainable benefits for the community and the local environment," said Eka.
Furthermore, Mekarsari Village can become a Development Village of PT Len Industri as one of the implementation of the PKBL Program (Partnership and Community Development Program). This village is considered to have potential that can be further developed.
Chairman of Mekarsari LMDH (Institute of Forest Village Community), Nana Wiharna said that approximately 380 families here have livelihoods as farmers and coffee and tea farm workers. This includes the Perhutani protected forest land, where the Forest Stakeholder Unit (KPH) and the local LMDH have carried out the NKK (Manuscript of Cooperation Agreement) for coffee farming. Land management is carried out by the community and then it will divide 15% of the yield to the land owner.
Coffee from the plantation of Mekarsari Village is known by the brand name Kerkhoven Coffee. The name was taken from the name of the character Rudolph Eduard Kerkhoven, a pioneer and builder of the Gambung Tea Plantation in the Dutch colonial period. Other products from the village located on Mount Tilu are Gambung tea, Gambung packaging mineral water and Sam Sam Chips tea leaf chips that have been sold outside Java. So far, marketing efforts have been made online through social media.
CSR PT Len Industri which carries the tagline "Go Green, Go Smart, Go Welfare" with its vision "Going Together with the Community to Realize Harmonious Life and Prosperity", is a form of concern for the community and surrounding environment so that it becomes the company's commitment and responsibility in implementing business policies.
