PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. BANDUNG - Acting West Java Governor Bey Machmudin said stunting and protecting migrant workers were the main challenges that women had to answer in parliament.

Bey conveyed this when opening the Indonesian Parliamentary Women's Caucus (KKP) Working Meeting at the Grand Sunshine Hotel Soreang, Bandung Regency, Friday (19/4/2024).

"Regarding the problem of stunting, we really hope that the role of women in parliament will be to pay more attention and criticize government policies, so that we can improve the quality of our children in the future," said Bey Machmudin.

Regarding migrant workers, Bey still receives many complaints that female migrant workers do not receive clear information about the description of their work abroad.

Apart from that, many female migrant workers still go abroad illegally, without clear documents, and worse without adequate skills, especially in terms of language.

"We ask for help from female parliamentarians to remind our migrant workers not to be tempted by stories of big salaries abroad and leaving without clear legality," said Bey.

"They are not equipped with documents, there is no preparation and training," he added.

The working meeting itself took the theme 'Strengthening the Role of the Parliamentary Women's Caucus in Optimizing Legislative Duties', attended by 28 members of district and city DPRDs throughout West Java.

Bey emphasized that the West Java Provincial Government is committed to continuing to support empowerment efforts and increasing participation in the development process.

"We need to foster cross-sector cooperation and strengthen the implementation of policies that support women's empowerment, including in terms of education, health, economy and protection of women's rights," concluded Bey.
