PORTALJABAR, CIMAHI CITY - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin took part in delivering the first shipment of 16 tons of refused derived fuel (RDF) made from waste at the Santiong Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST), Cimahi City.

The 16 tons of RDF were sent to PT Indocement, which is a cement factory in Bogor Regency.

Bey appreciated that right on the occasion of World Earth Day, April 22, West Java was able to take significant real action to save the earth.

"Today good waste management has been demonstrated by TPST Santiong, and has become a center for waste management innovation with advanced technology and sustainable processing," said Bey Machmudin, Monday (22/4/2024).

According to Bey, the Santiong Cimahi TPST has succeeded in reducing dependence on the Sarimukti TPA, which has exceeded capacity.

Santiong TPST is waste processing infrastructure in the Citarum watershed in the Greater Bandung area which is included in the Improvement of Solid Waste Management to Support Regional and Metropolitan Cities Project (ISWMP) program.

"There are many TPSTs but the ones that are properly integrated and processed have become the new RDF TPST Sentiong, the first in West Java. I hope this will be emulated and become an encouragement for other districts and cities," added Bey.

TPST Santiong was developed with a circular economy approach. Through RDF, waste is converted into an energy source that has economic value. So that waste processing at the Santiong TPST continues to be sustainable.

RDF also encourages the concept of green industry which is currently being implemented by many factories in Indonesia.

Apart from processing plastic waste into RDF, Santiong TPST also processes organic waste using magotization.

The black soldier fly type of magot that is bred to decompose waste at the Santiong TPST is a type of black soldier fly. Apart from being used as compost fertilizer, the larvae can also be used as animal feed.

Bey Machmudin continues to seek the best formulation regarding waste management so that it has economic value and is environmentally friendly.

Bey reminded all parties not to become complacent and remain consistent in processing waste independently. "We have to process waste upstream from the house, that's what's important," he said.

Meanwhile, Acting Mayor of Cimahi Dicky Saromi said that the Santiong TPST has a waste processing capacity of 50 tons per day.

However, in the initial stages, currently only around 30 tons per day have been tried and will be maximized to 50 tons if there is a match between the performance of the machine and the workers.

"The capacity is 50 tons per day. But we have to do it gradually, so now it's 30 tons first. Because this is related to adjusting machine work and the people are still learning," said Dicky.

If it can absorb a maximum of 50 rubles per day, added Dicky, then the Santiong TPST can significantly reduce waste in Cimahi, which amounts to 226 tonnes per day.

Furthermore, Dicky will also immediately consider absorbing RDF results for several industries located in Cimahi City so that the capacity and absorption of processing results can be properly accommodated.

"In the future, we hope that Cimahi City can achieve zero to landfill," he concluded.
