PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - The Garut Regency Government welcomed 10 Garut residents who survived the sinking of the Virgo 8 ship at the Garut Regency Social Services Office, Thursday (17/9/2026).

Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin said one of the 10 victims who arrived required further medical attention, while the others were generally in good condition.

The Garut Regency Government will continue to conduct comprehensive health checks to anticipate health problems, especially internal health conditions.

Apart from physical health, the Garut Regency Government is also paying attention to the psychological condition of the victims because there are still 10 Garut residents who have not been found.

The survivors were temporarily detained from returning home because they lived in the same neighborhood and were worried about experiencing psychological impacts from the incident.

"So, if this many incidents happen at once, it might trigger their feelings of concern, so we'll hold them here for now. It'll be a bit later when it's more peaceful and they can return to their homes. They also want to go home," said Syakur.

Syakur explained that based on data from the Garut Regency Government, the total number of victims in the incident was 23 people.

Of this number, one person is a resident from Garut who already has a Cianjur ID card so that the Garut Regency Government's data collection covers 22 people.

"So, there are 12 people (who have been confirmed), and we're still waiting for 10 more. We have all the data, and we're also verifying it. We're also currently verifying all their population data," he continued.

As a handling measure, the Garut Regency Government will form an integrated team involving the Health Service, hospitals, and the Social Service.

The team is prepared to help the victims recover their health and psychological well-being so they can return to their normal activities.

"Later, we will form a team, especially with the Health Department, Hospitals, and Social Services, to ensure they recover quickly and return to their normal activities. I believe they are likely traumatized," he concluded.
