PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - In order to commemorate the 56th Anniversary of the Indra Dance Studio (STI), as many as 35 dancers will be involved in a dance drama created by the Sundanese Dance Maestro Indrawati Lukman which is planned to be held at De Majistic, Bandung City on Saturday (16/11/2024).
The dance drama performance entitled "The Historical Journey of Indrawati Lukman's 80 Years of Dance" will feature 8 types of dance combined with live gamelan music presented by the dancers and students of STI.
According to Indrawati, this dance drama performance was the wish of the students and dancers at STI, which also commemorated STI's 56th anniversary.
"The performance will be performed by dancers ranging from kindergarten, teenagers, professionals to lecturers," said Indrawati, in Bandung City, Friday (11/8/2024).
Indrawati hopes that this dance performance can attract the attention of the public, especially the younger generation, so that they can preserve the Sundanese dance art culture.
"I hope that this dance work can be passed on to the next generation and can add to the Sundanese khanzah. Hopefully this performance will open eyes, hopefully Sundanese dance art can be liked by the younger generation. I want West Java to be famous," said Indrawati.
Indrawati said that a number of figures would be present to watch this dance drama event, such as the Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin, the former Mayor of Bandung Dada Rosada, professors, lecturers, dance communities and the general public.
"I hope that their presence, in the future, can support and be supported by the government at the provincial and city levels. Because so far, this dance drama activity has used personal funds and donations," he admitted.
Meanwhile, Professor of Sociology of Arts at ISBI Bandung Arthur S. Nalan, gave his appreciation to Indrawati who praised her loyalty and struggle in preserving Sundanese dance art.
According to him, Indrawati's commitment and loyalty are the keys to the long history that she has carved out to gain national recognition as a Sundanese dance maestro," he said.
"This commitment was reflected when Indrawati, with the encouragement in her heart, formed and managed a dance education institution called STI," said Arthur.
"I know the journey very well. That loyalty was shown by Indrawati to STI. Mrs. Indra and STI cannot be separated. For 56 years, STI has not been an easy struggle for a dance group that stands alone without attention from the government," he concluded. (no)
