PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The surge in tourists to Bandung during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday exceeded expectations. By the middle of the holiday period, the number of visitors had reached around 700,000.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan admitted he was surprised by the high number of visits. He said the surge far exceeded initial estimates.
"The number of visitors reached 700,000. This was truly surprising because we didn't expect it to be this high," said Farhan at Bandung City Hall on Friday (March 27, 2026).
He predicted that tourist numbers would continue to increase during peak weekends, with total visits potentially reaching 1 million.
"It could reach 1 million, especially on Saturdays and Sundays, which are the peak visitor numbers," he said.
The majority of tourists come from the Greater Jakarta area, dominated by families. They choose Bandung as their primary destination for the Eid holiday.
Farhan assessed that this year's trend differs from the previous year, which missed its target. This significant increase demonstrates that Bandung remains a very attractive city.
The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) has also ensured that all regional government agencies are on alert to anticipate the surge in tourists. It has urged all parties to maintain peace and order during the holiday period. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/rka)
