PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government is accelerating the repair of traffic facilities that were damaged by up to 75 percent due to the riots on the eve of International Labor Day (May Day) 1/5/2026 in the Dago Cikapayang area so that residents' mobility remains safe and smooth.

Head of the Bandung City Civil Service Police Unit, Bambang Sukardi, explained that security was carried out together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Republic of Indonesia National Police from morning to evening with the situation being conducive without any significant disturbances.

"From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. WIB, joint personnel maintained security and were on standby around Gedung Sate and the West Java Provincial People's Representative Council. The situation was monitored as safe and conducive, with no mass movements," Bambang said on May 2, 2026.

The riot occurred at around 18.00 WIB when a group of people carried out anarchic actions by burning facilities in the Dago Cikapayang area, thus triggering disturbances of public order.

Police moved quickly to disperse the crowd at around 19.00 WIB and firefighters extinguished the fire so that the situation was back under control.

The Head of the Bandung City Transportation Agency, Rasdian Setiadi, said that the damage occurred to the traffic signal lights and the fiber optic control network with an estimated loss of around IDR 400 million.

"The damage includes the APILL lights as well as the fiber optic node termination box and controller, with estimated damage reaching 75 percent, or around Rp. 400 million," said Rasdian.

The Bandung City Transportation Agency is operating a temporary system to ensure traffic lights remain functional, allowing traffic to flow smoothly and reducing the risk of congestion.

"We are trying to ensure traffic continues to flow smoothly following last night's demonstration, even though conditions are limited," said Rasdian.

The West Java Regional Police arrested a number of people suspected of involvement and confirmed that the action was not related to the official labor agenda.

"There was no discussion of expressing opinions or advocating for something. Instead, there was destruction," said West Java Regional Police Chief Rudi Setiawan.

The swift repair and security measures have had a direct impact on residents by ensuring that daily activities continue as normal without prolonged disruption.

The Bandung City Government continues to restore infrastructure and monitor vulnerable areas to prevent similar incidents from recurring and maintain public safety.
