PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The West Java Provincial Government (Jabar) closed the 2026 Pancawaluya School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) series through an Ecological Action centered at the Cikutra Heroes Cemetery (TMP), Bandung City, Tuesday (21/7/2026).

This activity was attended by representatives of high school and vocational school students and was carried out simultaneously in all districts/cities in West Java.

The Ecology Action program was held at 882 public schools, with activities concentrated in 27 districts/cities. Overall, the program involved 343,374 new 10th-grade high school (SMA), vocational high school (SMK), and special needs (SLB) students from both public and private schools. Of these, 327,604 students were from public schools.

The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of West Java, Herman Suryatman, emphasized that the Ecological Action is not just the conclusion of the MPLS, but rather the beginning of character building that must continue to be realized in everyday life.

"This activity is merely symbolic. What's most important is the concrete action taken after returning to their homes, schools, and communities," he stressed.

The Regional Secretary also invited students to get used to being involved in various domestic activities as part of character building.

According to him, simple habits such as sweeping the house, washing and ironing one's own clothes, helping parents with trading, farming, or keeping the environment clean are exercises for building leadership, independence, responsibility, and social awareness.

"The best way to predict the future is to create it today. Start with small, simple things, but do them consistently. These good habits will shape your character and lead you to become a future leader," he stressed.

The Regional Secretary added that a person's success is not only determined by academic ability, but also by character and soft skills built through positive habits in daily life.

Environmental Care Culture Starts from School

Meanwhile, the Head of the West Java Education Office (Kadisdik), Purwanto, said that Ecological Action is part of the pedagogical practice in the implementation of Pancawaluya character education which is expected to become a culture in all educational units.

"Ecological Action isn't a one-day activity. It's a learning practice that must become a habit in schools. It starts with maintaining personal hygiene, classroom hygiene, school grounds hygiene, and the surrounding environment as part of character education," he said.

The Head of Education explained that the implementation of the Ecological Action was carried out collaboratively with River Clean Up Indonesia, the Sapulidi Community, regional apparatus, the TNI, the Polri, and various other environmentally conscious communities.

At the provincial level, participants carried out various concrete actions, such as ant operations, cleaning areas and rivers, cleaning and maintaining the graves of heroes, as well as participating in environmental conservation education with River Clean Up Indonesia and the West Java Education Office's Sapulidi Community.

In addition to being centered at TMP Cikutra, the Ecological Action was also carried out at SMAN 3 Bandung and SMAN 5 Bandung together with the Pandawara Group, as well as in all educational units in West Java.

Through this movement, it is hoped that the spirit of maintaining cleanliness and environmental sustainability will not stop at the implementation of MPLS, but will become a culture that continues to grow in the lives of students as a tangible manifestation of the characters Cageur, Bageur, Bener, Pinter, and Singer. *opd
