PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - The Regional Executive Board (DPD) of the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI) of Garut Regency held an environmental awareness campaign through cleanup and community service activities in the Kerkof City Forest area, Tarogong Kidul District, Garut Regency, Sunday morning (19/7/2026). This activity received full support from the Garut Regency Government (Pemkab) by involving several Regional Work Units (SKPD).

The collaborative action was attended by various elements of the regional government, including the Communication and Information Agency (Diskominfo), the Environmental Agency, the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR), the Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora), and the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP).

The Head of the Garut Regency Communications and Information Office, Agus Kurniawan, who was present at the location, expressed his appreciation for the initiative initiated by the Garut Regency KNPI DPD. He stated that the activity served as a form of education and an invitation to the public to be more concerned about environmental cleanliness.

"We, on behalf of the Garut Regency Government, greatly appreciate the initiative of our colleagues at KNPI. This began with the Kerkof City Forest being communicated to the community and concrete actions being taken to maintain cleanliness and the environment," he said.

Agus hopes that similar activities can increase public awareness in maintaining the function of urban forests as green open spaces while maintaining environmental cleanliness.

"Hopefully, this activity will educate the public on how to maintain the function of urban forests and their environmental cleanliness. We must protect the environment in Garut Regency, starting with ourselves," he added.

Meanwhile, Agil Syahrizal, Chairman of the Garut Regency KNPI Regional Leadership Council (DPD), explained that this activity was held in response to numerous public complaints regarding the accumulation of trash in the Kerkof City Forest area. In addition to the cleanup, his organization also installed warning signs and provided trash bins at several locations to raise public awareness about maintaining cleanliness.

"Of course, this won't solve the problem. It requires public awareness, from users and visitors to the Kerkof City Forest, to dispose of trash properly. That's why we've issued several warnings and placed trash cans at several locations this morning," Agil continued.
