PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) is preparing mitigation measures after the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau entered the Bandung area.

This condition resulted in the temporary closure of Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung on Sunday (6/9/2026).

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said that the Bandung City Government is preparing mitigation measures to anticipate the impact if the ash continues to spread into Bandung City.

Farhan said that the Bandung City Government will coordinate with relevant agencies, starting from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC).

"We are currently developing mitigation measures in case the volcanic ash reaches Bandung. We will coordinate first with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), second with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), third with AirNav, and fourth with KCIC," Farhan said on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

The spread of volcanic ash has the potential to impact various community activities and transportation services that require rapid condition information.

The Bandung City Government needs to ensure that developments regarding volcanic ash conditions are communicated to the public quickly and accurately.

Farhan also highlighted the activities of students who use motorbikes to go to and from school every day.

According to him, the air conditions affected by volcanic ash mean that the use of two-wheeled vehicles requires more attention.

"This includes conveying information to children, especially those who go to school and also use motorized vehicles, especially motorcycles. That's actually dangerous," he said.

Farhan said the Bandung City Government is still awaiting input from relevant agencies before issuing further recommendations to the public, including regarding the use of masks.

In addition to volcanic ash, the Bandung City Government continues to promote mitigation against various other disaster threats, including the potential for earthquakes.

Meanwhile, Corporate Secretary Group Head of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, Arie Ahsanurrohim, said that flights at Husein Sastranegara Airport were temporarily suspended.

"BDO has suspended flight operations from 12:07 to 16:00 WIB," said Arie.

The flight suspension was carried out after monitoring showed that the spread of volcanic ash had entered the Bandung area.

"It has been exposed to volcanic ash," he said.

Arie said that his team was still monitoring the development of the distribution of volcanic ash before deciding whether to reopen flight activities.

"His status is the same as Soekarno Hatta's, and his distribution will be monitored further," he concluded.
