PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Health Service collaborated with the Bandung City Indonesian National Nurses Association (PPNI) to socialize Basic Life Support (BHD) to RW and Posyandu cadres at the Bandung City Hall, Saturday (11/11/2023).

This activity is supported by the West Java Indonesian Cardiovascular Nurses Association (INKAVIN).

According to the Chairman of the Bandung City PPNI DPD, Ganjar Wisnu Budiman, BHD is a series of emergency measures designed to save the life of someone experiencing a life-threatening medical condition.

Cardiac arrest is currently the highest cause of death. Cardiac arrest can occur anytime, anywhere, and is caused by a variety of conditions and environments.

Therefore, a series of actions are needed to prevent death caused by cardiac arrest.

This assistance is not only provided by health workers, but every citizen in general can carry out this BHD by learning the steps.

"The aim is to try to train cadres to understand technical fields, when someone needs it. "So that this method can be spread to the community," he said.

According to Ganjar, implementing BHD can increase life rates.

"The aim is to increase the number of lives. That is one way, if there is an incident, then the medical team has not come so that the community can help with the techniques that have been given," he said.

He hopes that with this training, RW and Posyandu cadres can apply the techniques well, so that they can be used when needed in an emergency.

"The hope is that people will be more familiar with Basic Life Support and can use it when it is needed," he said.

In the same place, Head of Health Services, Bandung City Health Office, Deborah Johana Rattu, revealed that cardiac arrest can occur anywhere and at any time. So currently training is being carried out so that cadres can understand it.

"Cardiac arrest occurs anywhere and at any time and is caused by various factors. Sometimes when you are cooking, exercising, sitting in the office, you suddenly feel weak. So first aid is needed to save your life," he said.

The following are things that must be done in the first steps of Basic Living Assistance:

1. Ask for help or assistance.
2. Contact call center 119.
3. Check consciousness by calling the victim, or slapping him on the shoulder while calling "father/mother". If it doesn't respond, also stimulate it by pressing on the chest.
4. Position the rescuer between the victim's shoulders.
5. Position the victim on a flat, hard place.
6. Check the carotid pulse and see breathing (chest expansion) for a maximum of 10 seconds.
7. If the carotid pulse is not palpable, compress 200 times or compress for 2 minutes.
8. If the carotid pulse is not yet palpable, continue compressions 200 times or for 2 minutes until waiting to be taken over by a competent officer.
9. If the carotid pulse is palpable, free your breath by opening your mouth. Then clean if there are foreign objects.
10. If there is a pulse and breathing has returned, position the victim in the recovery position (steady tilt position). (rdp*)
