PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) is encouraging athlete regeneration through the 2026 Bandung Mayor's Cup National Circuit Badminton Championship (Sirnas) C Utama Open.
The championship was attended by 1,249 participants from 209 clubs from various regions and took place from 10–15/8/2026 in Bandung City.
Head of the Bandung City Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora), Sigit Iskandar, said the competition provides a space for young athletes to hone their skills through national competition.
"The city government is very supportive of the success of this year's National Circuit C. We hope that this competitive event will foster the development of high-quality badminton players for the future," said Sigit in an official statement from the Bandung City Youth and Sports Agency.
The match took place at the Lodaya Sports Hall and Bandung Sports Hall, with 21 events being contested, consisting of 10 singles categories and 11 doubles categories.
The event competes for national ranking points while also providing competitive experience for athletes from various regions of Indonesia.
A total of 231 athletes from 15 Bandung City clubs competed under the auspices of the All Indonesia Badminton Association (PBSI) Bandung City.
Taqi Arena became the club with the most participants, namely 109 athletes who took part in various competition numbers.
The host also recorded an achievement through Mutiara Cardinal Bandung, which became the overall champion with seven gold, seven silver, and seven bronze medals.
This achievement demonstrates the potential for developing local athletes as well as the opportunity to regenerate Bandung City's badminton players to the national level.
Sigit assessed that holding the championship helped restore Bandung as one of the cities hosting national badminton competitions.
"This is a concrete step we are taking together to restore our city as a center for national badminton events while maintaining Bandung's tradition as the City of Champions," he said.
The championship was closed with a Winners' Honor Ceremony (UPP) at the Bandung Sports Hall on August 15, 2026, with the awarding of medals to the athletes.
The Bandung City Government hopes that the competition will continue so that young athletes can gain development space and experience towards higher achievements.
