PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government is preparing to implement artificial intelligence (AI) to accelerate public services, improve the accuracy of policy-making, strengthen government transparency, and support public welfare.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan conveyed this when opening the NGULIK (Chat and Discussion on Information and Communication Technology, Data and Statistics) event as part of an effort to formulate strategic steps for implementing AI in the local government and community environment (4/6/2026).
Farhan said that Bandung City has great potential to become one of the leading regions in implementing AI that is oriented towards community needs.
"I'm very happy because this morning we discussed understanding the direction of the national AI roadmap. This is crucial so we can collectively determine strategic implementation within the Bandung City government and its citizens," said Farhan.
According to him, the use of AI can help the government provide faster services, increase bureaucratic efficiency, and support data-driven decision-making.
However, human resource readiness is an important factor so that this technology can be utilized optimally.
Farhan also emphasized the importance of personal data protection in the development and use of AI in various service sectors.
"We must not neglect personal data protection, allowing people's data to be controlled, stored, and processed in the wrong way," he said.
In addition to security aspects, the successful implementation of AI requires support from various parties, including the government, academics, the business world, communities, the media, the public, and the central government.
He believes that the support of the Ministry of Communication and Digital is a crucial factor in building a sustainable AI ecosystem.
Farhan emphasized that the implementation of AI must provide tangible benefits to citizens through faster services, more targeted policies, and increasingly transparent governance.
Even though technology continues to develop, the role of humans remains the main element in public services.
"AI can't replace empathy. A human touch remains crucial in public service," he explained.
Farhan encouraged all stakeholders to build a work culture open to innovation so that digital transformation can bring direct benefits to society.
"Now is the time to complete the last mile of digital transformation. Let's work together to build a more advanced Bandung through responsible and community-oriented technology," he said.
