PORTALJABAR, CIAMIS REGENCY - The 43rd National Sports Day (Haornas) commemoration in Ciamis Regency took place through the Active and Fit Community Movement (GEMAR) campaign, Sunday (20/9/2026).
Taking advantage of the National Sports Day momentum, the city center streets, starting from the Alun-Alun, the Regional Secretariat area, to the front of the Grand Mosque and the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), became a zone of public activity.
The area is used by residents from 06.00 to 09.00 WIB to enjoy various sports facilities and public services.
Thousands of residents enthusiastically participated in group exercise, traditional sports, line dancing, free health checks, and blood donation.
Head of the Ciamis Regency Culture, Youth, and Sports Agency, Dian Budiyana, in his report said that the open space was provided to facilitate the community's mobility needs.
"I would like to inform you that this activity is solely for the benefit of the entire community of Ciamis Regency. Please feel free to use the public roads, which are now free of vehicles, until nine o'clock. Children can ride bicycles, rollerblade, and enjoy the other facilities," Dian said to the participants.
In addition to physical activities, the event was also combined with social activities in the form of community service distribution of basic necessities by the Forkopimda ranks.
Dian also appreciated the involvement of the Forkopimda ranks and the presence of the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports Expert Heru Komarudin and his staff.
Meanwhile, Ciamis Regent Herdiat Sunarya, represented by Ciamis Regional Secretary Andang Firman Triyadi, emphasized that the GEMAR campaign encourages physical activity to become part of a lifestyle.
According to him, exercise is not always synonymous with competitive activities that drain a lot of energy.
"Exercise doesn't always have to be in the form of strenuous training or competitions. However, simple activities like walking, running, cycling, gymnastics, and various other physical activities, if done regularly, will provide benefits to our fitness and quality of life," he said.
Furthermore, Andang inserted a joke regarding the misunderstanding of physical activity in the household, especially for housewives.
He stressed the importance of differentiating house cleaning routines from actual exercise activities.
"Sometimes mothers like to protest, they say they have swept, they have washed clothes. In fact, these are routine activities, but the dimensions are not yet clear. So they separate routine household activities from sports activities," he joked.
Closing his remarks, Andang hoped that the spirit of togetherness and active lifestyle would not stop at ceremonial activities.
The Ciamis Regency Government hopes that this campaign will be a momentum to build a shared commitment to realizing an active, healthy, and fit society.
