PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The West Java Provincial Government will prioritize the construction of small mosques in rural areas. This will serve as a means of spirituality for residents at all times.

This was stated by the Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, at the "Commemoration of the Islamic Holiday of Muharram 1448 Hijri" event with the theme: Strengthening Love for Islam and Islam Love in 1448 H, in the Main Hall of the Al-Jabbar Grand Mosque, Tuesday (9/6/2026).

"We want to build small mosques in communities that need them at all times. There are already many grand mosques in West Java," said KDM, Dedi Mulyadi's nickname.

According to KDM, the existing community-based initiatives will be gradually and integratedly developed, with the assistance of all parties. This will eliminate the need for a new Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM).

"We want to build a mosque with a congregation, a place for children to study the Koran, a place for the people to worship there," said the man who is known for wearing a white headband.

He believes that currently there is a shift in the use of mosques, from places of contemplation, prostration, building spiritual relationships between humans as creatures and Allah, to becoming a means of recreation.

"If the mosque is a recreational facility rather than a spiritual facility, then the mosque will only become a place for selfies, not a place for contemplation," said KDM.

KDM states that the essence of worship lies in one's relationship with God and not in the splendor of the place visited.

"Mertivation can be done anywhere. Meditation can be done in the bedroom, small mosque, under a tree, at the edge of a rice field, at the edge of a lake, at the edge of a mountain, at the edge of the ocean. Places have no meaning, the most important thing is the silence of the soul to be able to present God in the recesses of the soul," concluded KDM.
