PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. BANDUNG - Extreme rainfall that flushed the Greater Bandung area on Thursday ( 11/1/2024 ), resulted in flooding with strong currents in Lamajang Peuntas Village, Citeureup Village, Dayeuhkolot District, Bandung Regency.
This extreme rainfall caused the lip of the Cigede River embankment to break, causing severe flooding that hit Lamajang Peuntas Village and its surroundings.
Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin together with related agencies moved quickly to inspect the location which resulted in around 2,000 houses being affected.
"We are complete, there is the Head of BBWS Citarum, Head of BMKG, Chief Executive (Kalak) of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of West Java Province, BPBD of Bandung Regency, also from social services, and TNI/Polri," said Bey Machmudin when inspecting the flood location. in Lamajang Peuntas Village, Bandung Regency, Friday ( 12/1/2024 ).
"For mitigation, firstly, because this embankment broke, the solution will be to use geobags temporarily and for the flood it will be used (sucked up) with a special car from the BBWS (Balai Besar Sungai Daerah), but gradually," he added.
Approximately 2,000 heads of families were provided with refugee camps, namely at SMP Negeri 1 Dayeuhkolot.
The refugee area is now home to around 200 people, while others choose to stay on the second floor for those with multi-storey houses.
However, Bey Machmudin appealed to residents who want to be evacuated to refugee camps to immediately contact the police on number 110. In the refugee camps there is clean water and a public kitchen.
"There are 2,000 houses that have been submerged, meaning that approximately 2,000 families have prepared temporary shelters at SMPN 1, currently there are 200 people. We have also prepared a public kitchen, clean water, and the Police Chief will announce to those who are still at home, If you want to be evacuated immediately, you can call 110." he said.
Bey Machmudin also appealed to the public to remain alert to extreme weather forecasts from the BMKG.
"Still according to BMKG forecasts, there will be heavy rain in the next weeks. We don't know what it will be like today, but we ask the public to be careful and alert." he said.
The public is also reminded to pay attention to environmental cleanliness. The reason is, it is clearly visible that the flood brought piles of rubbish which is thought to have blocked water channels.
"First (the cause) yesterday the rain was very heavy, extreme, and the water flow was very high, but there was also a lot of rubbish. We urge residents to work together to maintain the cleanliness of their environment by not throwing rubbish carelessly. Because you can see all the rubbish, which is blocking the flow of water," concluded Bey.
