PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Even though it has been declared free from Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) since 2022, the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) continues to increase vigilance ahead of this year's Eid al-Adha.
This was conveyed by the Head of the Bandung City Food Security and Agriculture Service (DKPP), Gin Gin Ginanjar at Bandung City Hall, Monday (19/5/2025).
"We anticipate the spread of infectious diseases. Although FMD in Bandung is free, animal traffic from outside the city still carries potential risks," he said.
To prevent the entry of infected animals, the DKPP has issued a circular regarding the entry of animals into the city of Bandung.
Each animal must be equipped with an Animal Health Certificate (SKKH) and must go through an official recommendation submission process from the originating agency.
Gin Gin said, many animals that entered Bandung came from Sukabumi, Sumedang, and Garut. Most remained healthy, but it is possible that there were minor illnesses due to travel.
"Mild illnesses such as sore eyes or stress due to wind and air during the journey are often found. For that, we usually treat them with vitamins. But if there are serious illnesses such as FMD, anthrax, or zoonosis, we return them to their area of origin," he explained.
He emphasized that the entire process was carried out as a form of government presence in ensuring that the implementation of the sacrifice was safe, healthy, and in accordance with sharia. Diskominfo Kota Bandung/rka)

Let's Choose Healthy and Certified Sacrificial Animals via e-Congratulations
Bandung City — Facing Eid al-Adha 1446 H, the Bandung City Food Security and Agriculture Service (DKPP) appealed to the public to be more careful in choosing sacrificial animals.
Head of DKPP, Gin Gin Ginanjar, said that the public should buy sacrificial animals that have been checked and have official identification in the form of a necklace and barcode.
"The easy requirement for the public is to see the necklace given by the officer. This necklace is equipped with a barcode which is proof that the animal has been examined and declared healthy and fit," said Gin Gin after the release of the Sacrificial Animal Inspection Task Force at Bandung City Hall, Monday (5/19/2025).
The barcode on the animal collar is connected to the e-Selamat application, a collaboration between DKPP and Telkom. This application contains complete data on sacrificial animals, including their origin, type, photos, and health check results.
"With the barcode, the animal's identity is recorded accurately. This minimizes the risk of the collar being moved, as has happened before," he explained.
Gin Gin also shared tips for residents to recognize healthy animals with the naked eye.
"Physically healthy animals stand upright, have clean fur, no wounds, do not produce excess fluid, and have a good appetite. Thin and weak animals are prohibited from being used as sacrifices," he explained.
Residents who find suspicious animals are asked to immediately report to DKPP officers or Task Force officers spread across the field. This inspection is important considering that sacrificial animals are part of worship, so aspects of eligibility and health cannot be ignored.
