PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi asked the public to care about their environment and not be indifferent.
The appeal was issued in connection with the case of the abuse and kidnapping of his girlfriend by suspect Taufik Hidayat, which lasted for three years without anyone knowing. Even the victim's family lost track of him for quite some time.
KDM, Dedi Mulyadi's nickname, said this incident would not have occurred if neighborhood associations (RT/RW) had actively registered residents, especially when new arrivals arrived. The mandatory reporting rule for new arrivals or those staying more than 24 hours should be reinstated.
"Our problem is that we're indifferent. The environment is already bad. Many officials are increasingly insensitive, only taking action when it goes viral and causes a lot of public outcry. This case reflects a neglectful environment," said Kang Dedi Mulyadi, Wednesday (June 24, 2026).
KDM emphasized that data collection on boarding houses or rented accommodation must continue to be carried out, not only for the sake of levies or taxes but also to identify the existence of boarding houses.
"The village head, neighborhood unit (RT), and community unit (RW) have their cell phones. The landlady just takes a photo of the boarding house occupant and then reports it for registration as a temporary resident. This is the photo, this is their ID card. So if there is a problem, it can be identified quickly," said KDM.
He also lamented the parents' indifference to their children's social interactions, allowing them to go out and even spend the night with men without supervision or suspicion.
"Don't let the daughters go
"Freely. If you go out of town, be accompanied. If you stay overnight, be accompanied. Don't let your whereabouts be unknown for months," said KDM.
He also stated that the perpetrator deserved the maximum sentence commensurate with his transgressive actions. However, the sentence imposed would be up to the judge at the trial.
Regarding the Rp. 250 million reward for the public who finds and catches the perpetrator, KDM said that it had ended because the West Java Regional Police had succeeded in arresting him.
"Yes, the competition was announced
for the residents who found it. If the police find it, we'll talk about it later,
"Yes, I'm afraid there will be elements that violate the law, as this is an official matter. I'll meet with the Regional Police Chief later," he said.
