PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Dozens of ASEAN Summer School participants visited SMPN 2 Bandung City to see best practices for organizing healthy canteens at the school, Thursday (25/7/2024)

Principal of SMPN 2 Bandung Erni Kustiani explained that the provision of food in the healthy canteen of SMPN 2 Bandung City was carried out to support the School Health Business (UKS) program.

The traders in the canteen were initially given socialization from DLH, Health Department and DKPP regarding healthy school canteens with the assistance of the Food Safety System.

The outreach includes waste management, Buruan Sae, Mabar B2SA, stop wasting food and food sanitation and Sugar-Salt-Fat Smart

Food sold in the canteen has also passed a food test from the Bandung City DKPP Food Security System and the Bandung City Health Service.

"We do this to ensure that the food sold in the canteen has balanced nutritional value and is safe for health," he said.

Head of the Bandung City DKPP, Gin Gin Ginanjar, said that on the third day of the ASEAN Summer School, a visit was held to see the practice of providing food for school children at SMPN 2 Bandung City.

"We see here that one of the SMP 2 Bandung schools has started, although it is not yet perfect. They provide food for school children that is healthy and of a standard," he said.

He said that during the previous two days the delegation had formulated a mechanism for providing school food.

Chair of the MUFPP Secretariat Filippo Gavazzeni appreciated the efforts of SMPN 2 Bandung City in providing strict policies regarding healthy and sustainable food and canteens.

He also appreciated SMPN 2 Bandung City for being the host and one of the loci for ASEAN Summer School delegates to use it as Best Practice.

He hopes that this activity can create programs that enable cities in ASEAN to implement very strong policies, which allow every child to get at least one healthy and sustainable food.

"Together we have achieved a lot, but there is still a lot to do. Thank you very much for the hard work of everyone and everyone who has supported us," he said.

For information, the city of Bandung has hosted "ASEAN Summer: School Meals Programs in ASEAN Cities" which will take place from 23-26 July 2024.

This activity is the result of collaboration between the Bandung City Government, the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP) and Parahyangan Catholic University, which aims to strengthen food security and improve school food programs in ASEAN cities.
