PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Acting Governor Bey Machmudin invited the West Java Province National Land Agency (BPN) to participate in educating the public about proper land use to avoid disasters.

According to him, proper land use is part of disaster mitigation. Bey reminded that West Java is a disaster-prone area such as floods and landslides, one of which is caused by improper land use practices.

Disasters often occur because land use is not in accordance with its intended use. For example, hilly land is used for settlements, industry, or for agriculture with incorrect land management techniques, so that landslides are increasingly prone.

"West Java is a disaster-prone area, we ask the public to be reminded about disaster mitigation," said Bey Machmudin while acting as Inspector of the Agrarian and Spatial Planning Day (Hantaru) Commemoration Ceremony in the yard of Gedung Sate Bandung, Tuesday (24/9/2024).

According to Bey, mobile BPN officers have a high possibility of interacting with the community down to the villages. Whether it is in recording, mapping, measuring, or land redistribution programs that are the duties of BPN.

Therefore, education on mitigation can be done by BPN officers in the field. "BPN officers often meet people in remote areas that we ourselves may have never visited," said Bey Machmudin.

Disaster management, Bey added, is not only the responsibility of local governments or disaster management agencies, but also vertical agencies of the central government can also contribute. Moreover, BPN is closely related to land and its use.

"Please, Mr. Head of the BPN Regional Office, coordinate with the West Java BPBD, to socialize disaster mitigation," said Bey.
