PORTALJABAR, SUKABUMI CITY - After seeing the flood conditions in Bandung Regency, Acting Governor Bey Machmudin went down to the flood location in Sukabumi City, Wednesday (6/11/2024).

The locations visited include Cikondang Village, Jayakarsa Village, and Sindanglaya Village. Flooding in the three villages was caused by heavy rain that fell in the last few days.

"I see the impact of yesterday's extreme rain was quite severe for the community. The Mayor of Sukabumi has coordinated the City BPBD with residents to clean up the affected areas," said Bey Machmudin.

Bey reminded the public to be vigilant, considering the forecast of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) which states that the peak of extreme rain will occur from the end of November to February.

"We urge the public to be careful because the peak of extreme rain is predicted to occur at the end of November to February," he added.

During this visit, Bey Machmudin also saw the handling of basic needs for affected residents. The Sukabumi City Social Service has been present at the location to help refugees.

"Some basic necessities such as clothing are being prepared, and the Social Services Department is already at the evacuation site," he said.

Bey also confirmed that the Sukabumi City BPBD is currently assessing the damage caused by the flood. Regarding the possibility of infrastructure repair, Bey said that further evaluation will be carried out together with BNPB.

"We will evaluate together with BNPB regarding repairing the damage, whether emergency response status is needed or not," he said.

Bey reminded residents not to litter because it could worsen flooding conditions.

"High rainfall intensity is indeed the main factor, but piles of garbage also accelerate water entering residential areas. We ask residents to be more orderly in disposing of garbage and follow the rules in building houses," he said.

Bey then asked the local government to tighten building permits, especially in riverbank areas.
