PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. SUMEDANG - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin again checked the current condition of Sumedang District Hospital after the earthquake on Wednesday ( 3/1/2024 ).

After the earthquake that rocked Sumedang Regency on Sunday (31/12/2023), at around 20.34 with a magnitude of 4.8, hundreds of Sumedang Regional Hospital patients were evacuated outside the Hospital building, and treated in tents lined up on Jalan Prabu Geusan Ulun.

Until now, as many as seven refugee tents in front of the Sumedang Regional Hospital are still standing but are empty without a single patient.

This is because all the patients who were evacuated to tents were returned to the Sumedang Regional Hospital, on Tuesday ( 2/1/2024 ).

The tents remain standing as an anticipatory measure in case an aftershock occurs which has the potential to harm patients again.

Meanwhile, to assist the operations of the Sumedang District Hospital, which is still on standby, two special tents for hospitalization and operations have also been received from the Indonesian Ministry of Health.

"Today I checked here again, so yesterday the Head of Sumedang Health Office, the Managing Director of Sumedang Regional Hospital asked for a hospital tent, and this has been responded quickly by the Ministry of Health, it already exists," said Bey Machmudin.

Regarding the condition of the Sumedang Regional Hospital building, according to him, it was based on an assessment from the PUPR Ministry. The building is declared safe and suitable for occupancy.

Because of this, all the patients were returned to the room, but the tent was still standing in anticipation that something bad might happen again.

"After being assessed by PUPR, this building is still suitable and safe to use," he added.

Bey Machmudin said that based on an update from the Sitabah application developed by the Sumedang District Government, the number of houses damaged by the earthquake was 1,136, with details of 876 being slightly damaged, then 136 being moderately damaged, and 124 being heavily damaged.

The assistance that will be provided by the Province is still waiting for field verification regarding the level of damage to each house that will be provided with assistance.

On this occasion, Bey Machmudin also took the time to inspect the houses damaged by the Sumedang earthquake in Cipamempeuk Village.

According to Bey, based on the experience of the earthquake in Cianjur recently, the assistance provided by the Central Government for damaged buildings, including heavily damaged houses, was IDR 60 million, moderately damaged IDR 30 million, and lightly damaged IDR 15 million.

"The source of the earthquake is still waiting for BMKG to investigate so we should not draw any conclusions. The point is that BMKG is asking the public to be alert this week," he said.
