PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin together with the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) and the 10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla attended the inauguration of the Regional Management (PW) of the Indonesian Mosque Council of West Java Province for the 2024-2029 period at the Al Jabbar Grand Mosque, Bandung City, Monday (14/10/2024).

In his speech, Bey Machmudin emphasized the important role of mosques in empowering communities in line with DMI's vision.

He appreciated Jusuf Kalla for his dedication in strengthening the role of mosques in Indonesia, especially in West Java.

"Mr Jusuf Kalla's presence is a great honor for us. His experience and leadership in advancing the role of mosques is an inspiration for all Muslims," said Bey.

Bey also reminded that the mosque is not just a place of worship, but also a center for empowering the community.

"I have been following Mr. Jusuf Kalla since 2014 when he was Vice President. He always emphasized the importance of mosques as centers of community empowerment," he explained.

Furthermore, Bey touched on the issue of online loans (pinjol) and online gambling (judol) which are rampant in West Java.

"We are fighting against online loans and online loans. Online loans in West Java have reached IDR 18 trillion, while online loans have reached IDR 38 trillion. With the help of DMI, we hope to be able to reduce this problem and find solutions to empower the people's economy through the sharia system," he added.

Bey is also optimistic that with synergy between the government and DMI, the challenges of the times can be overcome.

"With more than 100,000 mosques in West Java, I am sure that mosques can become centers of social transformation and balance between spiritual and economic values," he said.

Meanwhile, Jusuf Kalla in his speech emphasized the importance of making mosques prosperous not only by building them, but also through good management and active congregation.

"Making mosques prosperous is Allah's promise. Whoever makes mosques prosperous will be given a place in heaven," said Jusuf Kalla.

He also said that mosques in Indonesia are a symbol of unity.

"In Indonesia, the mosque is a place of unity, there is no difference who builds or manages it, whether from NU, Muhammadiyah or other organizations. All congregants are welcomed with open arms," he said.
