PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. CIREBON - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin commemorated the 95th anniversary of Mother's Day in a ceremony at the Convention Hall of Muhammadiyah University, Cirebon Regency, Wednesday (20/12/2023)
On that occasion, Bey Machmudin read the remarks of the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia Bintang Puspayoga.
Bey said that the essence of celebrating Mother's Day in Indonesia is not only to appreciate the great services of mothers, more than that, to appreciate all Indonesian women for their role, dedication and contribution to the family, community, nation and state.
"It is hoped that celebrating Mother's Day every year can be a leverage to encourage all stakeholders and the wider community to pay attention and acknowledge the importance of the existence of women in various development sectors," said Bey.
Taking into account current conditions and priority issues, the 95th anniversary of Mother's Day still carries the theme 'Empowerful Women, Advanced Indonesia', with sub-themes adjusted for the current year and interrelated to frame the spirit and movement of women.
The theme 'Empowered Women, Advanced Indonesia', is based on the current situation and conditions in society.
"While the issue of violence against women, gaps in women's economic access, and women's representation in decision making are still far behind compared to men. However, on the other hand, there is a lot of evidence of the large role and contribution of women in development," he said.
Apart from that, in Indonesia there are many women who have strategic roles and positions that initially seemed impossible for women to do. This proves that women, if given opportunities and opportunity, are able to improve their quality of life independently.
"Women in various dimensions of national and state life are also able to become driving forces and motors of change (agents of change)," he said.
The women's movement in development, of course, cannot be separated from the support of all parties, including the government, the business world and society. For this reason, all efforts and steps are expected to be able to run in accordance with the principle of equal partnership.
"This principle reflects how Indonesian women and men play a role in building the nation, while also playing an active role in building prosperity and establishing close relationships with various nations in the world, both at regional and international levels," he said.
Finally, said Bey, the Central Government wants to invite all people, especially Indonesian women, to continue working, to be able to become independent, creative, innovative, confident and improve their quality and capabilities.
"Because we, women, will be stronger if we unite to break the stigma that is still attached to us. Now is the time for women to give their own color to the development of this nation through their roles and real work," he said.
Meanwhile, General Chairperson of Sekoper Cinta, Amanda Bey Machmudin, who was present online, said that Mother's Day is a momentum to encourage West Java women to become more empowered and have equal rights in various fields such as education, law, social, economic and other fields.
"Hopefully it can increase the fighting spirit of women in West Java to continue working, be confident, independent and creative so they can be more empowered and prosperous," he said.
