PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. KARAWANG - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin inaugurated the Walahar Bridge in Kutapohaci Village, Klari District, Karawang Regency, Wednesday (27/12/2023).

The inauguration of this bridge was greeted enthusiastically by residents. They believe that this bridge will really help accessibility for those who make their living as traders.

The Walahar Bridge connects two sub-districts in Karawang Regency, namely Ciampel and Klari, which form the border with Purwakarta Regency. This bridge was built through the West Java Province financial assistance scheme worth around IDR 52 billion.

The Walahar Bridge is a type of concrete bridge with a width of 7 meters with two lanes, two directions and a length of 130 meters with three spans.

Bey said that the construction of this bridge is a form of West Java Provincial Government's commitment to improving regional connectivity, community accessibility, and also has the potential to support the economic improvement of the surrounding community.

"The Walahar Bridge which was just inaugurated is proof of the government's presence in serving and providing easy access for the community," said Bey.

“The public really appreciates this bridge. "Of course, from an economic perspective, it will make it easier for those trying to (do business), and also increase market coverage," he added.

Apart from being a link between Ciampel District and the Purwakarta Regency boundary, the Walahar Bridge can also support tourist access and the South Japek Toll Road and overcome frequent traffic jams.

Previously, people used the Walahar Dam Service Bridge which was built in 1925 with a width of only 3 meters.

For this reason, Bey instructed the Karawang Regency Regional Government to follow up on the construction of the Walahar Bridge by developing roads so that traffic jams can be resolved.

"The development by the regional government regarding the narrowing of the road will be to widen it so that traffic jams do not occur," he concluded.
