PORTALJABAR, SUMEDANG REGENCY - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin witnessed the 2024 West Java Paragliding Championship (WJPC) in the Batu Dua area, Cisitu District, Sumedang Regency, Wednesday (2/10/2024).
The event was attended by 100 paragliding pilots from 14 countries who will compete in Sumedang Regency.
The 2024 WJPC competition from 1-6 October 2024 will take place in the cross country category, where the pilots will take off in the Batu Dua area and land at the Sumedang Government Center (PPS).
Bey appreciates this world-class sporting activity as an effort to introduce tourism potential in West Java, especially Sumedang Regency.
"I think this can attract tourists from abroad because (WJPC) is a world championship," said Bey.
When he arrived in the Batu Dua area, Bey assessed that activities like this could be improved further to be better in various ways.
"This paragliding event is included in the world championship, the participants are from various countries and they come here to get points at the world level. So (the organization) is expected to be better next year if it is held again," he said.
Meanwhile, paragliding activist Aries Pribaya explained that the 2024 WJPC activity is a work program of the Indonesian Aero Sport Federation (FASI) which is already world-famous because it uses the International Paragliding Cross Country (IPXC) label.
"This is an agenda from the center of the Indonesian Aero Sport Federation, in this case the Indonesian Air Force is implementing it and it has been included in their calendar," said Aries.
Aries in WJPC activities is tasked with ensuring that all pilots are comfortable, safe, and that the implementation runs smoothly.
"I am here as a paragliding activist serving as a technical delegate for this activity to ensure that everything runs smoothly," concluded Aries.
