PORTALJABAR, INDRAMAYU REGENCY - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin reviewed the impact of tidal flooding that occurred on the coast of Eretan, Indramayu Regency.
The tidal floods that have hit the area for the past few days have inundated a number of villages, including Eretan Wetan Village, Eretan Kulon Village, and Kertawinangun Village, Kandanghaur District, Indramayu Regency.
When Bey visited, the flood was still inundating the area with an average height of around 50 cm. Tidal flood disasters often hit the area.
But usually the high tide that overflows is only about 10-20 cm, then recedes in a few hours. But the past few days the water level has been quite high.
Bey also revealed a number of things that his party would try, including river normalization, building embankments, and gradual relocation of residents.
This requires joint handling by various policy makers from the central, provincial to district levels.
"This tidal flood is recurring, so first we will try to normalize the river, then build embankments, and relocate residents in stages," said Bey Machmudin while reviewing the impact of tidal floods and revitalizing the Fish Auction Place (TPI) in Eretan Kulon Village, Indramayu Regency, Monday (11/18/2024).
"This must be done together by the central, provincial and district governments, and this cannot be resolved quickly. We will address it gradually," he said.
Bey also revealed the condition of the tidal flood that continues to ebb and flow. "This morning it receded, then rose again," he added.
Therefore, for river normalization and embankment construction, further coordination will be carried out with the River Basin Center (BBWS). This is important so that the embankment construction can be carried out immediately in 2025.
Relocation land available
Bey also said that for the relocation, 1.5 hectares of land has been made available in an area far from the impact of tidal flooding, from the national housing development program for fishermen's families which can accommodate 93 families.
In addition to relocation, fishermen will also be given training for a better life, including running micro-scale businesses and MSMEs.
On the same occasion, a number of fishermen conveyed their aspirations to Bey Machmudin, namely a request for an additional quota of subsidized diesel fuel for fishermen.
"The request for subsidized fuel for fishermen is certainly reasonable. I will coordinate with Pertamina/BPH Migas. Hopefully it will be anticipated quickly, (the addition of subsidized fuel quota for fishermen) is proposed to be increased," he said.
