PORTALJABAR, CIREBON REGENCY - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin inspected the flash flood location in Watubelah Village, Sumber District, Cirebon Regency, Sunday (19/1/2025) afternoon.
Bey checked the conditions at the Al Khairiyah Islamic Boarding School, Graha Permai Housing, and the surrounding area.
"I reviewed the impact of flash floods in Watubelah Village, Sumber District, Cirebon Regency, this reminds us to always be vigilant," said Bey Machmudin.
At the Al Khairiyah Islamic Boarding School, floods hit the mosque, office, teachers' official residence, and student dormitory.
BPBD officers, firefighters, volunteers and students worked together to clean up the remains of thick mud that covered the floors of the Islamic boarding school buildings.
In Watubelah Village, floods submerged 200 houses, some of which were damaged. Bey reminded residents to always be careful, and increase disaster preparedness. Because extreme weather is still occurring in the West Java region until now.
"Vigilance is needed because there is no rain here, rain (occurs) in Kuningan Regency (bordering Cirebon) but the river current is strong (all the way to Cirebon)," said Bey.
Flash floods hit Cirebon Regency and City on Friday (17/1/2025) night. The flood occurred due to high rainfall causing the Cipager River to overflow and break the embankment.
Floods submerged eight villages in five sub-districts of Cirebon Regency, namely Weru, Tengahtani, Sumber, Beber, and Talun Sub-districts. A total of 2,430 people and 606 houses were affected.
According to Bey, the Provincial Government together with the Cirebon Regency Government and related stakeholders will coordinate with the Cisanggarung River Basin Center (BBWS) to rebuild the broken embankment, normalize the river, and other best solutions.
