PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) together with the Geological Agency confirmed that the information circulating on social media regarding the eruption of Mount Gede (G. Gede) in West Java Province, is not true or a hoax.

A video showing a column of volcanic ash on top of a mountain and claimed to be Mount Gede is actually documentation of the eruption of Mount Marapi in West Sumatra.

Based on reports and monitoring results from the Gede Volcano Observation Post located in Ciloto Village, Pacet District, Cianjur Regency, West Java Province, to date no eruption or ash column has been detected from the crater of Mount Gede.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said that surface activity monitored from early January to April 8, 2025 was still in the form of thin to moderate white smoke from the Wadon Crater, with a height of around 50 to 100 meters.

"Seismic monitoring shows that since the increase in Deep Volcanic Earthquakes (VA) on April 1, 2025, there has been no increase in crater smoke blowing activity or further increase in seismic activity, especially Deep Volcanic Earthquakes (VA)," said Abdul Muhari, Wednesday (9/4/2025).

In the period from 2 to 8 April 2025 at 06.00 WIB, 1 Tornillo earthquake, 2 Deep Volcanic Earthquakes, 6 Local Tectonic Earthquakes, and 14 Distant Tectonic Earthquakes were recorded.

Thus, according to Abdul Muhari,
The activity level of Mount Gede until April 8, 2025 at 06.00 WIB is still at Level I (Normal), with recommendations that people around Mount Gede and visitors or tourists do not descend, approach, or spend the night within a radius of 600 meters from the Wadon Crater.

Abdul Muhari appealed to the public to remain calm and not be easily influenced by information that cannot be verified. The government will continue to conduct intensive monitoring of volcanic activity and is ready to provide official information periodically.

"The public is advised to always access information from the official channels of PVMBG, BNPB and other related agencies," he concluded.
