PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) continue to coordinate to address the land and forest fires and drought in West Java.

West Java BPBD Public Relations Officer Hadi Rahmat informed that land fires and drought are still being recorded in the West Java region.

As of September 8, 2026, 193 land and forest fires were recorded in 121 sub-districts, with a total area of burned land reaching 325.87 hectares.

Based on data from the West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the largest area of burned land was recorded in Majalengka Regency, Sukabumi Regency, Subang Regency, Sumedang Regency, Bandung Regency, Kuningan Regency, Cirebon Regency and Pangandaran Regency.

Meanwhile, drought has hit 205 sub-districts, affecting 215,424 families. Efforts to address the drought include distributing 17.69 million liters of clean water to assist affected residents.

BNPB, through the Directorate of Operational Control Coordination (Dit. Koordalops), recorded a number of disaster incidents in various regions of Indonesia between Wednesday (9/9/2026) and Thursday (10/9/2026).

Berton SP Panjaitan, Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, stated that forest and land fires (karhutla), floods, and droughts remain disasters that continue to receive attention from the central and regional governments.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported no casualties in the incident, while material losses are estimated at around 40 hectares and are still being assessed. As part of its response efforts, the West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is extinguishing the fires using jet fighters and manual methods. Urgent needs include additional firefighting teams, forest and land fire extinguishing equipment, and logistics.

The fire is estimated to cover 40 hectares and is still being mapped by the TNGC. Current conditions on Wednesday (September 9, 2026) show joint teams still conducting extinguishing, blocking, and cooling operations. As of 8:00 PM WIB, the hotspots were no longer visible, although blocking and cooling operations were ongoing.
