PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin directly inspected the location of the fire at three souvenir kiosks on Jalan Pramuka, Garut City District, while highlighting the importance of socializing emergency numbers so that fire handling is faster and safer for residents (1/14/2026).
The fire incident had an impact on the economic activities of traders and had the potential to spread because the location was in the city center with high frying activity.
Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin appreciated the quick response of firefighters who managed to localize the fire so that other kiosks could be saved.
He assessed that the delay in reporting from residents was an important note because there was still confusion in contacting emergency services.
"Lack of public awareness regarding emergency numbers has left residents confused about who to contact, even though reporting quickly could have reduced the impact," said Abdusy Syakur Amin.
According to him, the distribution of emergency number information must be expanded to fire-prone areas despite the risk of misuse.
"Facilities that are at risk of fire must be continuously reminded," he stressed.
Head of the Garut Regency Fire Department, Usep Basuki Eko, explained that the fire occurred at the intersection of Jalan Pramuka and Jalan Bank, which is a strategic area in the city center.
He said officers deployed five fire engines with 35 personnel to prevent the fire from spreading to other kiosks.
"We deployed three water pumps and two water supplies, using a total of around 36,000 liters of water," said Usep Basuki Eko.
He said three kiosks were burned down, while a number of kiosks in the surrounding area were saved without any casualties.
Usep Basuki Eko added that the initial suspicion that the fire was caused by a leak in the gas hose in the frying pan, however, further investigations are still underway.
Officers ensured that the cooling process was complete so that the area was declared safe and there were no embers left.
The evaluation and dissemination of emergency numbers is expected to reduce the risk of similar fires and protect the safety of Garut residents.
