PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - The Regent of Garut, Abdusy Syakur Amin, became the Inspector of the 2026 National Awakening Day Commemoration Ceremony at the Garut Regency level, which was held at the Garut Regency Regional Secretariat Roll Call Field, Jalan Pembangunan, Tarogong Kidul District, Wednesday (20/5/2026).
On the occasion, the Regent of Garut read a written address from the Indonesian Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid. She emphasized that National Awakening Day (Harkitnas) is a moment to reflect on the spirit of the Budi Utomo organization of 1908, which marked the milestone in transforming physical struggle into intellectual and diplomatic one.
Syakur explained that the government is currently building a welfare ecosystem encompassing the food, health, and education sectors. He highlighted the successful implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals program in schools, the construction of People's Schools and Garuda Schools in affirmative action areas, and the provision of free and equitable health check-ups.
"Efforts to improve people's welfare are also being strengthened through the Merah Putih Village Cooperative, which is considered a new economic force at the village level. Through cooperatives, village communities are expected to have increased access to fertilizer, capital, distribution of crops, basic necessities, affordable medicine, and basic economic services. This will enable villages to grow more independently and less dependent on others," he continued.
Furthermore, the Garut Regent also touched on the government's concrete steps to protect the younger generation in the digital era, namely through the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 (PP TUNAS). This policy includes suspending social media access for children under 16 starting March 28, 2026, as an effort to ensure a healthy, ethical, and developmentally appropriate digital space.
In his closing remarks, Abdusy Syakur Amin urged the entire Garut Regency community to make Asta Cita (8 Great Missions) the primary compass for continuing the nation's journey. He hoped all elements could work together to realize these missions to bring about real change that could be directly felt by the community.
"We must be able to realize this mission to bring about real and tangible change in people's lives," he concluded. (Garut Communications and Information Service/rka)
