PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin closed the 2026 Garut Regency Elementary School Quiz Competition, which was attended by representatives from 42 sub-districts at the Al-Musadaddiyah Foundation Complex Hall, Tarogong Kidul Sub-district (16/4/2026).

The competition resulted in SDN 4 Pataruman from Tarogong Kidul District as the first winner and also defending the title won the previous year.

The second place was won by SD Yos Sudarso from Garut City District, while the third place was won by SDN 3 Banjarwangi from Banjarwangi District.

Abdusy Syakur Amin said the Quiz Competition was a step taken by the regional government to improve students' literacy and numeracy skills from elementary school age.

"We also see that we need to make serious efforts to improve the quality of numeracy and literacy. With this competition, I hope schools will prepare themselves as well as possible, which will indirectly encourage elements of society, especially schools, to become more serious about learning," said Abdusy Syakur Amin.

He plans to evaluate the competition system to broaden the reach of educational activities, including encouraging the holding of similar competitions for teachers.

"Because I hope that what makes a child great is their teacher, we will encourage that because sometimes I want to assure all of us that our teachers also have the competencies that match our teachers," said Abdusy Syakur Amin.

Abdusy Syakur Amin also assessed that activities involving participants from various sub-districts could have an economic impact on the community around the activity location.

"And another thing, this encourages economic growth. Because the sub-districts gather, there's another economic boost. We always create economic opportunities through events that can have an economic impact on the wider community," said Abdusy Syakur Amin.

Head of Elementary School Division of Garut Regency Education Office Ai Sadidah explained that the competition was attended by 42 teams representing sub-districts which were divided into three preliminary regions, namely north, central, and south.

"Each region has three rounds of elimination, with each round producing a champion who advances to the semifinals. As you can see, the semifinals are a single round, with the champion advancing to the final," said Ai Sadidah.

Ai Sadidah said the concept of this year's Quiz Competition is focused on strengthening literacy and numeracy as part of improving the quality of basic education.

He added that the Garut Regency Education Office is also preparing a Quick and Accurate Competition program that focuses more on students' mathematics and numeracy skills.

The principal of SDN 4 Pataruman, Ariana, said that the success of her school team was the result of preparations made since the beginning of the year.

"Because this has become an annual event, and we've already accepted that it will be held in April, we've prepared for recruitment to begin in January," said Ariana.

One of the members of the winning Prawira team said he was grateful for the results achieved after going through tough competition with other schools.

"Thank God, I never expected to reach this point. Thanks to prayers and hard work, I've achieved this. I hope our successors will achieve the same results," said Prawira.

This competition is expected to motivate other schools to prepare high-achieving students while strengthening the learning culture in Garut Regency.
