PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Garut Regent, Abdusy Syakur Amin, held a Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) meeting and received an audience with residents at the Pasir Bajing Final Processing Site (TPA), Jalan Warung Peuteuy, Banyuresmi District, Garut Regency, Tuesday (13/10/2026).
The meeting discussed fire management and the management of the Pasir Bajing Landfill, involving the local government, the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), and the surrounding community.
The Regent of Garut stated that the Garut Regency Government (Pemkab) is committed to addressing the community's aspirations in stages. He stated that a mutual understanding between the government and residents is necessary for effective fire management and waste management.
"The point is, we've reached an understanding regarding the future steps for implementing improvements here. In the short term, we'll focus on firefighting, and in the long term, we'll focus on reorganizing the Pasir Bajing landfill," said the Regent.
Regarding the piles of rubbish that were scattered on the roadside, the Regent emphasized that cleaning and transporting the rubbish to the TPA area would be carried out in stages.
"This must be done well. We're trying to appreciate the people here who understand the situation," he added.
The Regent explained that the Pasir Bajing landfill covers approximately 17 hectares. The fire was located in the accompanying disposal area. Going forward, several locations within the landfill will be optimized using a sanitary landfill system, a waste management method that involves planned landfilling and waste control.
Regarding the cause of the fire, the Regent stated that no specific investigation has yet concluded the exact cause. He also encouraged the public to monitor conditions in the landfill area, especially at night.
"One of the things we're asking for is community participation in monitoring conditions here. I've learned that there aren't many guards here at night," he concluded. (Garut Communications and Information Service/rka)
