PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - The Garut Regency Government is strengthening irrigation and protecting food crops to maintain regional agricultural productivity.
Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin discussed the steps with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia (Kementan RI) in Jakarta on August 18, 2026.
The meeting took place with the Directorate General of Agricultural Land and Irrigation to discuss strengthening the agricultural infrastructure of Garut Regency.
The discussion also included the establishment of Sustainable Food Agricultural Land (LP2B) to maintain the sustainability of regional food production.
Abdusy Syakur said that improving irrigation facilities was necessary to ensure the availability of water for farmers' agricultural land.
"Earlier, we discussed our efforts to ensure that the productivity of Garut Regency farmers remains as expected, one of which is through our efforts to improve primary, tertiary, and secondary irrigation facilities, which guarantee timely water availability," said the Regent.
Strengthening the irrigation network is expected to help farmers obtain the water supply they need so that agricultural productivity is maintained.
Secretary of the Directorate General of Agricultural Land and Irrigation of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, Dhani Gartina, welcomed the Garut Regency Government's steps to strengthen the agricultural sector.
Dhani assessed that support from the central and regional governments is needed to optimize the agricultural potential of Garut Regency in a sustainable manner.
Protecting food crops and improving agricultural infrastructure is expected to boost production while maintaining food availability for the community.
"So that Garut Regency can contribute to food self-sufficiency in West Java in particular and in Indonesia in general," Dhani concluded.
