PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - The Garut Regency Government is collaborating with the Indonesian Education University to improve student literacy and numeracy through Community Service for Teacher Professional Education Students, Wave One, 2026 (22/7/2026).

The program involves 360 students of the Teacher Professional Education Postgraduate School of the Indonesian University of Education who will support improving the quality of learning in schools.

Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin said that improving literacy and numeracy remains an educational challenge in Garut Regency.

"Alhamdulillah, I believe UPI is the best educational institution in Indonesia, focusing on education. We are asking for the best people to help Garut," said Abdusy Syakur.

He hopes that the collaboration between the Garut Regency Government and the Indonesian University of Education will continue to be strengthened through various teacher competency improvement programs.

Dean of the Graduate School of the Indonesian Education University, Juntika Nurihsan, said that community service must provide real benefits to the world of education in Garut Regency.

"We want the Graduate School to be more than just a beacon, but to truly be felt. Its research development, innovation, and development efforts are socialized and truly utilized by schools in Garut. Thank God, what we dreamed of 2-3 months ago, today God has ordained us to implement one of the three pillars of higher education, namely community service," Juntika emphasized.

He targets Garut Regency to become an integrated research center whose results can be used to improve the quality of learning.

"So that the research is not only stored on nice shelves on the UPI campus, but makes the research the basis for learning and development in Garut," he added.

Head of the Teacher Professional Education Study Program at the Postgraduate School of the Indonesian University of Education, Asep Herry Hernawan, explained that Garut Regency was chosen because it has great potential in human resource development.

According to him, students will map the challenges of implementing deep learning while also contributing to strengthening learning at the elementary education level.

"We hope that through this P2M program, students can map out issues related to the implementation of in-depth learning in the field. This will enable UPI PPG students to make a real contribution to strengthening learning implementation, particularly at the elementary level," Asep concluded.
