PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Garut Regency —- The Regent of Garut instructed Village Heads in Garut Regency to register junior high school age children in their respective areas so that all of them can attend school.
This instruction was delivered by the Regent of Garut, Abdusy Syakur Amin, following the decrease in the Pure Participation Rate at the junior high school level by 20 percent compared to the elementary school level.
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency of Garut Regency, the Pure Participation Rate of Elementary Schools/Islamic Elementary Schools in 2024 was 97.97 percent, while Junior High Schools/Islamic Junior High Schools only reached 79.9 percent.
"SD APS is relatively good, almost all elementary school-age children go to school, but starting from junior high school level it drops by around 20 percent," said Syakur while leading the Morning Roll Call at the Caringin District Office, (9/5/2025).
Syakur asked the Village Heads to ensure that junior high school-aged children in their areas actually attend school to increase the Average Length of Schooling in Garut Regency, which in 2024 was recorded at 7.84 years.
He also requested data on junior high school-aged children from the Population and Civil Registration Service so that it could be traced whether they still lived in the area and were attending school or not.
The Regent emphasized his commitment to facilitating children from underprivileged families to continue their education to junior high school level.
"If you don't have a uniform, books, or anything else, tell us, we will look for assistance from Baznas or Bank BJB, the main thing is that no one should not go to school," he stressed.
Syakur also asked the Education Office to immediately follow up if there is a need to build new classrooms in areas with many junior high school-aged children who have not yet attended school.
