PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin released 783 contingents from Garut Regency to compete in the 2026 West Java XV Provincial Sports Week (Porprov), Monday (26/10/2026).

The release took place at a joint roll call at the Regional Secretariat Roll Call Field, Jalan Pembangunan, Tarogong Kidul District, Garut Regency.

Carrying the theme "Garut Hebat, Teuneung Ludeung, Manjing Jawara", this year's contingent is the largest compared to previous years.

Abdusy Syakur stated that the contingent sent was the best team from Garut Regency. He hoped the athletes would be able to demonstrate their best abilities despite budget constraints.

"We are sending the best team Garut Regency has to ensure we can survive in the province. Despite the fiscal constraints, this doesn't preclude our students from participating and still demonstrating the never-give-up mentality typical of Garut," the Regent emphasized.

He added that participation in the sporting event is expected to boost the regional economy and have a positive impact on other sectors.

"This is solely to boost the economy in Garut Regency. We, the Garut Regency Government, are very aware of sports activities. We hope they will have a positive impact on other areas such as education, health, and the economy," he added.

The Regent advised the athletes to maintain the good name of Garut Regency and fight with an unyielding spirit.

"You are the people who represent Garut. Despite your limitations, you can demonstrate excellent achievements," he said.

On this occasion, a symbolic handover of BPJS Employment protection was also carried out for the athletes.

The Deputy Regent is Optimistic that the Garut Contingent Will Achieve Success

Garut Deputy Regent Putri Karlina expressed optimism regarding the ability of the Garut Regency contingent to compete at the provincial level.

"I'm optimistic about the Garut Regency contingent's ability to compete at the provincial level. Personally, I don't interfere much in their training; I can only pray for them and hope they will achieve success and bring home medals," said Putri Karlina.

The Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) for Garut Regency, Subhan Rohmansyah, stated that technical preparations had been carried out, including the establishment of a training center.

Support for accommodation, meals, and healthcare services has also been coordinated with Dr. Slamet General Hospital, Nurhayati Hospital, and Rotinsulu Hospital.

"Technically, including the training center, we have carried out it. God willing, we just have to compete," said Subhan.

The 2026 West Java XV Porprov is scheduled to take place on November 7–20, 2026, with the preliminary rounds starting on October 27, 2026.

Garut Regency will participate in 53 of 68 sports, 66 of 95 disciplines, and 396 of 1,156 competition numbers.

The contingent consists of 526 athletes and 257 coaches and officials, totaling 783 people.
