PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin officially released the 2026 Economic Census Officers at the Garut Regency level. The release ceremony was held simultaneously with a joint roll call at the Regional Secretariat (Setda) Field, Jalan Pembangunan, Tarogong Kidul District, Garut Regency, Monday (June 15, 2026).
A total of 2,599 officers will carry out the Economic Census from June 15 to August 31, 2026.
In his directive, the Garut Regent emphasized the importance of synergy between the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and all levels of government, from the Regional Secretary (Sekda) to sub-district heads and village heads. This collaborative effort is necessary to provide the public with a comprehensive understanding of the essence of the Economic Census and prevent misunderstandings in the field.
"Perhaps there's no harm in inviting everyone to explain the essence of this economic census while we're at it, so there's no misunderstanding," he said.
In particular, Abdusy Syakur highlighted a tendency in society to deliberately lower their economic status in order to receive social assistance. He argued that falsifying data to qualify for aid (such as deciles 1-5) is extremely dangerous because it obscures the true conditions in a region.
"This is also not good comprehensively. It will obscure the conditions around us, and I'm also worried that sometimes our poor population isn't decreasing, but rather increasing. It's not because they're truly poor, but because they want to be recognized as poor," he said.
He added that this kind of independent data manipulation would ultimately make it difficult for the government to maintain the effectiveness and accuracy of development targets. Therefore, a thorough and factual examination of the economic conditions is absolutely essential.
Considering that the Economic Census is a major agenda that is carried out every 10 years, the Regent of Garut hopes that this momentum can produce an accurate macro and micro scale portrait of the economic conditions of Garut Regency and Indonesia.
The Regent of Garut advised the officers deployed to the field to carry out their duties with full dedication, sincerity, and patience in facing various dynamics in society.
"Therefore, I hope the officers, ladies and gentlemen, can carry out their duties to the best of their ability," he concluded. (Garut Communications and Information Service/rka)
