PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin emphasized that regional development does not only focus on infrastructure, but also on character building of the younger generation through the Scout Movement while attending the Halal Bihalal as well as the Inauguration of the Complete Body and Activity Unit of the Garut Scout Movement Branch Office at the Garut Regency Hall (16/4/2026).
This activity serves as a momentum to strengthen character education for students so that they have discipline, life skills, and moral resilience amidst the rapid development of technology and the use of gadgets.
Abdusy Syakur Amin said the Scout Movement is an effective means of developing the mentality of the younger generation because it has long been proven to be a vehicle for character development.
"And I am among the group that believes that one of the things we can encourage for character building is empowering the Scout Movement, because Scouting is not something new, it is something that has existed for a long time and I feel that as someone who has participated in various Scout activities, this is suitable for our needs in the present and the future," said Abdusy Syakur Amin.
The Garut Regency Government provides support for strengthening Scouting activities through budget policies and encourages the involvement of the Youth and Sports Agency and the Education Agency in developing student development programs.
Abdusy Syakur Amin hopes that Scouting activities can become more active in filling the positive activities of the younger generation while also becoming an alternative for development amidst the negative influence of gadget use.
"What I hope is that we want Scouts to have more activities. Why? We're often concerned about the activities our children are currently involved in. While modern advancements provide them with rapid access to information, there are also things that can't be accessed through gadgets," said Abdusy Syakur Amin.
Head of the Garut Scout Movement Branch Office, Ade Hendarsyah, said that Scouts have a strategic role as a non-formal educational institution in developing human resources with Pancasila character and life skills.
"The big vision that we carry is the Garut Scout Movement as a non-formal educational institution to develop superior Garut human resources, with Pancasila character and quality life skills towards great Garut Scouts," said Ade Hendarsyah.
The Garut Scout Movement Branch Office also prepared a Life Skills Competition program for students to strengthen practical skills in the school environment.
"The life skills competition, God willing, for junior high school level will be held on April 21, 2026, at the RAA Adiwijaya Sports Facility. Then, for elementary school level, it will be held on April 28, 2026, at the same location, the RAA Adiwijaya Sports Facility," said Ade Hendarsyah.
The program is expected to train students' practical skills while instilling the values of independence, cooperation, and leadership from an early age.
