PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi instructed regents/mayors to immediately build railroad crossing barriers and assign guard posts at crossings lacking such infrastructure. The instructions were outlined in a letter sent to the regents/mayors.
Head of the West Java Transportation Agency (Dishub) Dhani Gumelar said the measure was a response to the accident involving the long-distance train Argo Bromo Anggrek and the Commuter Line KRL at East Bekasi Station, Monday (27/4/2026) evening.
In 2025, the West Java Transportation Agency built a barrier and guard post, and assigned guards at the JPl 211 railway crossing in Garut Regency, a provincial road. Then, in 2026, the West Java Transportation Agency is conducting a planning study (DED) to build barriers at JPL 46 and 52, provincial roads in Sukabumi City.
"We are also opening up the option of financial assistance (bankeu) for the construction of railway crossings on road sections under the authority of the district/city," said Dhani, Friday (1/5/2026).
Currently, proposals for the construction of a barrier gate have come from Garut Regency, Indramayu Regency, Banjar City, Cirebon City and Cirebon Regency.
flyover / underpass
Apart from building barriers, efforts to maintain traffic safety at railway crossings in West Java are also being made by building flyovers/underpasses.
Dhani stated that the West Java Provincial Government plans to build flyovers or underpasses at 16 locations: Bekasi City and Regency, Karawang Regency, Cimahi City, Bandung Regency, Bandung City, Garut Regency, Cirebon City and Regency, and Bogor City and Regency, Indramayu, and Subang.
The determination of these points is based on a study by the West Java Transportation Agency and proposals from the district/city governments.
"We are prioritizing the construction of flyovers/underpasses at railway crossings with double tracks and high traffic volumes. The proposal for this construction has been submitted to the West Java Provincial Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) and the West Java Provincial Highways Agency," said Dhani.
In addition, the West Java Transportation Agency conducted an inventory of traffic signs at railway crossings on provincial roads in 2025. Based on the results of this inventory, the agency will install and replace damaged traffic signs in 2026.
