PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan ordered the security of hundreds of excavated areas for infrastructure projects on various roads to prevent traffic accidents that could potentially endanger residents (1/4/2026).
The Bandung City Government is moving quickly to regulate excavation points that have not been optimally handled due to Passive Telecommunications Infrastructure work carried out by a number of network providers.
Farhan explained that the infrastructure project would continue, but the excavation site would need to be secured first to prevent endangering road users.
"Without proper coordination, this work has been proven to cause accidents. This cannot be taken lightly," said Farhan.
The city government will install safety markings in vulnerable locations, especially in former excavations that have the potential to cause accidents for motorists.
The number of ex-excavation points that must be secured is estimated to reach hundreds of locations spread across various areas of Bandung City.
Farhan apologized to the public if the security process caused temporary traffic congestion.
"I apologize to residents, as some areas will undoubtedly feel more congested. But this is for everyone's safety," said Farhan.
In addition to securing the excavations, the city government is also continuing its environmental improvement and planning program on 17 roads.
Security coordination is carried out by the Bandung City Communication and Information Service with the support of a number of regional agencies.
The Transportation Agency, the Civil Service Police Unit, and regional officials at the sub-district and village levels were also involved in field supervision.
"Security must be completed today. We're targeting completion of the entire project by June at the latest," said Farhan.
The Bandung City Government will also evaluate plans for other infrastructure projects after receiving official submissions from relevant parties.
"I haven't seen their next addition to the plan. Once a new plan is submitted, we'll consider whether to grant another permit," Farhan said.
