PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) is intensifying efforts to maintain public security and order. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that strengthening the neighborhood security system (siskamling) is a key strategy for reducing crime.

As a sign of commitment, Farhan and members of the Bandung City Government will conduct routine patrols every Sunday, starting at 2:00 a.m. WIB. These early morning patrols are part of a preventative measure to monitor crime-prone areas in Bandung.

"Starting at two in the morning, we'll be patrolling. This is part of the neighborhood watch (siskamling). Siskamling is key," said Farhan at the Bandung City Hall on Thursday (July 9, 2026).

He believes that creating a sense of security cannot rely solely on law enforcement. The active participation of the community is crucial, through the "Citizens Protect Citizens, Citizens Protect the City" initiative, to ensure the environment remains safe from all forms of crime.

Farhan explained that the Anti-Thuggery Task Force that had been formed so far had been working effectively. The recent uncovering of several robbery cases actually indicated that various perpetrator networks were beginning to be dismantled.

However, he believes the task force's success will be even more optimal if it receives full support from the community through the reactivation of neighborhood watch (siskamling) in their respective neighborhoods.

"We cannot continue to rely solely on law enforcement. The public must step in to protect our city from various criminal activities," he said.

The Bandung City Government has also mapped several vulnerable areas, particularly the city's border areas, which criminals frequently use as escape routes. This is being handled by dividing the area into five surveillance zones: West Bandung, East Bandung, Central Bandung, South Bandung, and North Bandung.

In addition to strengthening preventive measures, the City Government also ensures that victims of robbery will receive assistance, including access to health services.

Farhan said that all health facilities are obliged to provide services to victims without any refusal.

"All victims of robbery will receive assistance. No health facility should refuse patients medical care," he said.
