PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin said that his party has prepared two short and medium term handling steps to prevent landslides from happening again at the Cikutra Public Cemetery (TPU), Bandung City.

Bey said, for short-term handling in the Cikutra TPU area, gabions will be installed.
River bank protectors made of woven steel and filled with rocks are considered effective in preventing landslides when rivers overflow.

"For the short term, gabions will be installed around the TPU. We are working together with the TNI," said Bey Machmudin when met at the Pakuan Building, Bandung City, Thursday (11/28/2024).

Previously, heavy rain that occurred on Wednesday (11/27), caused the Cidurian River embankment at Cikutra TPU to collapse. As a result, dozens of graves were damaged.

Regarding medium-term handling, Bey said, currently the West Java Water Resources Agency is coordinating with the Citarum River Basin Center (BBWS) to create a retention pond. This rainwater reservoir is planned to be built around the Cikutra TPU.

"For the medium term, the Head of the West Java SDA Service is coordinating with the Head of the Citarum BBWS to create a retention pond in the TPU area," said Bey.

Post-landslide handling at Cikutra TPU is still being carried out by various parties.

Bey said that from the report received today, a total of 17 bodies were relocated to a safer place, two of which were moved to the Cikutra TPU, but the place is safer.

Then one body was relocated to Astana Anyar, Bandung City, three bodies to Cimahi City, and one body to Jakarta.

"So a total of 17 bodies were relocated to a safer place, including two bodies that remained in Cikutra, but were safer, one to Astana Anyar, three to Cimahi, and one body (moved) to Jakarta," Bey explained.

However, Bey ensured that no heroes' graves were damaged or swept away as a result of the incident.

"No heroes' graves were affected," he said.
