PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - The Population and Civil Registration Service (Disdukcapil) of Garut Regency destroyed 13,849 electronic Resident Identity Cards (KTP-el) collected from the public.

The destruction took place in the yard of the Garut Regency Population and Civil Registration Office, Jalan Patriot, Tarogong Kidul District, (27/8/2026).

This step aims to maintain the security of population documents and prevent identity misuse by irresponsible parties.

Head of the Population Registration Services Division of the Garut Regency Population and Civil Registration Office, Efran Brando, said that all e-KTPs originated from documents collected by the public.

"Today's activity involves destroying used ID card forms that were collected from residents for replacement, damage, or changes to data elements. Some residents' ID cards are in poor condition and are requesting replacements. So, we're collecting the damaged ID cards and the old ones," he said.

A total of 2,316 e-KTP cards were destroyed because they were physically damaged, unusable, or had experienced changes in the print quality.

Meanwhile, 11,533 e-KTPs were withdrawn due to changes in community population data elements.

Changes to these data elements include updates to status, address, or other personal data that make old documents no longer valid.

Efran emphasized that the withdrawal and physical destruction of e-KTPs was carried out in accordance with the technical instructions of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) of the Republic of Indonesia.

"So, as part of the Ministry of Home Affairs' mandate to safeguard documents from misuse, the order was to destroy them," he concluded.

The destruction is a step taken by the Garut Regency Population and Civil Registration Office to maintain orderly administration while reducing the risk of misuse of population documents by the public.
